This Positive Approach to Care (PAC) Approved workshop helps learners understand and recognize the differences in normal and not normal aging. The learner will develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. Learners will also develop new skills related to approach, cueing, and the ability to connect with people affected by dementia. The workshop will also address typical changes that happen in the early, middle, and late stages of the condition including the final care concerns.

On July 28, 2026, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET, the National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center will host the webinar, Building Community and Connections: Innovations in Adult Day Programming for People Living with Dementia. A description of the webinar and registration information follows. In this webinar, Amazing Place and OPICA Adult Day Program & Counseling Center will share insights into innovative programs and strategies that have proven successful in supporting people living with dementia and their family caregivers.
Amazing Place will highlight its innovative efforts to recruit and engage a multigenerational workforce. Through its STARS (Student Training in Alzheimer’s & Respite over the Summer) program and Legacy Workforce model, the organization creates meaningful opportunities for both individuals beginning their careers and those pursuing new opportunities after retirement.
OPICA will share strategies that support the sustainability of its adult day programs through an extensive multidisciplinary internship program and innovative fundraising initiatives. The presentation will highlight the vital role interns play in engaging and supporting individuals with early memory loss. Participants will also learn about OPICA’s creative fundraising efforts, which help provide participant scholarships, and its legacy giving program, both of which contribute to the long-term sustainability of the organization and its services.

Join the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices for a heartfelt and inspiring webinar as Jadene reflects on more than five decades of parenting her son, Matt, through the complexities of multiple disabilities. With honesty and warmth, she shares the hard-won lessons, unexpected insights, and “gifts of love” that emerged from a journey shaped by both challenge and deep connection.
Through moments of struggle, growth, and reflection, Jadene discovered how to reframe adversity, find meaning in everyday experiences, and cultivate a sense of joy that endures. Her story offers encouragement and perspective for caregivers, family members, and professionals alike reminding us that even in the most difficult seasons, there is opportunity for resilience, purpose, and connection.

Presenter: Jadene Sloan Ransdell, BS, has been a family advocate for nearly fifty years. Her son, Matt was born with Down syndrome and directed the sails of her life. She is an author, and podcast host. As the former co-chair of the NTG Family Support committee, she helped establish the NTG monthly support group. She also created the NDSS Adult Summit. Her first book, Unwrapping the Gifts of Disability: A Mother’s Reflection on Raising a Son with Down Syndrome has received many positive reviews. She is currently writing, A Traveler’s Guide to the Down Syndrome/Alzheimer’s Journey. The podcast is hosted by two other family members and can be found on her website or wherever podcasts are.
