Hawaii Wellness Mobility Network Inc. is hosting its first Monthly Family Support Group designed for caregivers of individuals with special needs and Kupuna. Join us in a supportive and welcoming environment where you can:

Kauaʻi Eastside Caregiver Support Group

This is a monthly get together of caregivers who wish to share and learn from fellow caregivers. Support groups create a safe, confidential, supportive environment or community and a chance for participants to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. They also educate and inform participants about dementia and help participants develop methods and skills to solve problems.

Note: This support group is for family caregivers, not persons living with dementia. If you are interested in programs for persons living with dementia, please contact the office for information [Cindy Fowler, Email: cfowler@alz.org Phone: 808.518.6655].

Space is limited – registration is strongly encouraged. You may be contacted by someone from the Alzheimer’s Association prior to the Support Group.

Driving and Dementia

Dr. Gina Fujikami, Geriatrician at Queen’s Medical Center and Clinical Assistant Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Hawaiʻi, and Ivy Castellanos, Director of Programs at Alzheimer’s Association of Hawaiʻi, will be presenting on “Driving and Dementia” via Zoom to the Department of Geriatric Medicine Grand Rounds, on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 12:30-1:30pm (HST).

At the end of this session, physicians will be able to identify potential driving concerns in patients with dementia and how to best counsel patients on stopping driving symptoms in aging.

Intended Audiences: Physicians, nurses, and other allied health staff caring for geriatric patients.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of The Queen’s Medical Center and the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. The Queen’s Medical Center is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Queen’s Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Upcountry Maui Caregiver Support Group

The Maui Adult Day Care Centers and the Maui County Office on Aging offer monthly Caregiver Support Groups across the island, providing a welcoming space to connect, share, and find encouragement. No reservations are needed, and complimentary care for your adult loved one is available during each group session, making it easier for caregivers to take time for themselves.

The Upcountry Support Group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Eddie Tam Park, Makawao. Enter Park, drive down road then turn at first left. We meet in pavilion. This support group is held outdoors. Please bring a lawn chair and a sweater. For all groups please feel free to bring a personal snack and soft drink or water for yourself.
