Ingredients

  • (1) 16oz bag pinto beans
  • 1/2 medium onion (chopped)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 6oz ham shank
  • 5 cups of water
  • Salt to taste

Directions

  1. Wash well and sort out any dried beans or rocks.
  2. Chop onion and mince garlic.
  3. In a pot, add beans, onion, garlic, and ham. Cover with 5 cups of water.
  4. Let it cook for 2.5-3 hours. Add water as needed.
  5. Season with salt to taste.
  6. Serve with brown rice or whole wheat tortillas.
