SUMMARY:Gifts of Love: A Mother’s Journey of Resilience\, Meaning\, and Joy
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Task Group on Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia Practices for a heartfelt and inspiring webinar as Jadene reflects on more than five decades of parenting her son\, Matt\, through the complexities of multiple disabilities. With honesty and warmth\, she shares the hard-won lessons\, unexpected insights\, and “gifts of love” that emerged from a journey shaped by both challenge and deep connection. \nThrough moments of struggle\, growth\, and reflection\, Jadene discovered how to reframe adversity\, find meaning in everyday experiences\, and cultivate a sense of joy that endures. Her story offers encouragement and perspective for caregivers\, family members\, and professionals alike reminding us that even in the most difficult seasons\, there is opportunity for resilience\, purpose\, and connection. \nLife brings challenges for all of us. Come connect\, reflect\, and explore how we can navigate them with strength—and uncover the gifts along the way. \nPresenter: Jadene Sloan Ransdell\, BS\, has been a family advocate for nearly fifty years. Her son\, Matt was born with Down syndrome and directed the sails of her life. She is an author\, and podcast host. As the former co-chair of the NTG Family Support committee\, she helped establish the NTG monthly support group. She also created the NDSS Adult Summit. Her first book\, Unwrapping the Gifts of Disability: A Mother’s Reflection on Raising a Son with Down Syndrome has received many positive reviews. She is currently writing\, A Traveler’s Guide to the Down Syndrome/Alzheimer’s Journey. The podcast is hosted by two other family members and can be found on her website or wherever podcasts are. SUMMARY:Neuroscience Symposium - From Inflammation to Intervention\, Neuroimmune Crossroads: Mechanisms\, Models\, and Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Neuroinflammation lies at the intersection of immune signaling\, neural circuitry\, and disease progression. Over the past decade\, extraordinary advances have deepened our understanding of microglial activation states\, peripheral immune infiltration\, cytokine signaling cascades\, and the long-term consequences of inflammatory stress on cognition and behavior. \nThe challenge before us is clear: \n\nHow do we move from descriptive findings to actionable therapeutic targets in brain tumors\, migraine\, sleep disorders\, and epilepsy?\nHow do we design interventions that modulate inflammatory pathways without disrupting essential neuroimmune communication in multiple sclerosis (MS)\, CIDP\, epilepsy\, headache disorders\, and myasthenia gravis?\nHow can we integrate biomarkers\, advanced imaging\, and AI-driven computational models to predict therapeutic response in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease?\n\nThis conference is a call to refine our tools and bridge the gap between mechanism and intervention. As we move from neuroinflammation to neurointervention\, we are not merely mapping pathways—we are building bridges: between academia\, clinical science\, industry\, government\, and advocacy communities. \nJoin us as more than 250 members of the interdisciplinary neuroscience community—spanning neurology\, psychiatry\, immunology\, psychology\, neurosurgery\, and translational research—come together to transform neuroinflammation from a diagnostic clue into a therapeutic opportunity.

SUMMARY:Research Workshop on Comprehensive Dementia Care Models: GUIDE and Other Models
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this one-day virtual workshop is to bring together experts in the field to include current NIH grantees and future NIH applicants focused on the GUIDE model and/or other comprehensive dementia care models. The workshop will discuss differential access to GUIDE\, impact of payment models in quality of care or access to care\, and additional data that could be beneficial to researchers or GUIDE model healthcare providers. Furthermore\, the workshop will address comprehensive dementia care models’ utility and challenges across the full disease continuum. The workshop participants will identify potential research opportunities for dementia care coordination models and discuss available and needed data to address research gaps. Outputs should also inform researchers\, patients\, families\, health systems\, and federal partners working with GUIDE and other dementia care coordination programs.

SUMMARY:Dementia Friends Champion Training
DESCRIPTION:Dementia Friends is a global movement that is changing the way people think\, act\, and talk about dementia. By helping everyone in a community understand what dementia is and how it affects people\, each of us can make a difference for people touched by dementia. This Hawaiʻi train-the-trainer workshop will cover the Dementia Friends content and teach participants to lead Dementia Friends informational sessions in their communities. Participants will receive the Dementia Friends resource materials and be empowered to become Dementia Friends Champions. This is not a clinical training about dementia.  \nPresenter: Christy Nishita\, Ph.D. is a Gerontologist at the University of Hawaiʻi Center on Aging. She received her Ph.D. in Gerontology from the University of Southern California. Her focus is on improving community-based long-term care\, dementia care systems\, workforce development in aging\, and intergenerational programming. She is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Kupuna Collective\, a statewide network of over 200 kupuna-serving organizations who are incubating new thinking and action in the aging network. She is the consultant for the Mayor’s Age-Friendly Honolulu Initiative\, which is creating more inclusive and equitable communities in Honolulu. Dr. Nishita is also leading policy and programmatic strategies to develop a more age-friendly and dementia-capable workforce in Hawaii.
